It is very likely that no matter where you are in the world, you have noticed the evidence of climate change. In addition, the news are available to everyone at all times. It is not difficult to understand that we are in a worrying situation and it is imperative to take action to change and improve things. Sustainability is priority!
At The Pink Side of Green we always like to give good news and today is no exception. Fortunately, there are many people and companies that seek to change the course of things towards a common good. As is the case with GUESS.
In 2017, the American brand launched its sustainability plan and with it a new vision and mission for the benefit of the brand, its customers and the world in general. This sustainable plan is a set of actions such as water saving, sustainably sourced, optimizing fashion with minimal waste, diversity and inclusion council, among others.
Joining forces
Guess has also joined forces with organizations in favor of sustainability such as: GRI Community, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), Global Fashion Agenda, The Jeans Redesign, CDP, Science Based Targets Initiative, UNFCCC Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, Good360, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Inno Community Development Organization, Homeboy Industries, Textile Exchange, and The World Stage.
Its most recent step in this incredible action plan is a €250 million revolving credit agreement in favor of sustainability, with its wholly-owned Swiss subsidiary, Guess Europe Sagl. With a term of 5 years and the possibility of extending it for two years with more than 100 million euros.
“We remain highly committed to our goal of protecting the environment and see sustainability as fully integrated into our operations. This new credit facility will not only provide incremental access to longer term capital, but will also align financial incentives with our sustainability goals. In our company, we continue to make every decision and take every action with the long-term in mind.” Says Carlos Alberini, the CEO of GUESS. This credit has three main pillars: operating with integrity, empowering our people, and protecting the environment.
These types of practices are what the world in general needs. Some brands such as Gildan Activewear, Prada, Mango, among others, have followed the same steps as a priority commitment to sustainability. We sincerely hope that many more fashion brands will follow this example and join the cause.
Also, it is a good opportunity for us as consumers and individuals to come together and cooperate from our possibilities. Any action, no matter how big or small, will always be of great help. Remember, “This is our world. This is our future.” And you, how will you join?
