Until November 2, 2022 it can visit the exhibition, diffused on Lake Orta (between Novara and Verbania, Piedmont), with the significant them: SOSHumanity. Organized by the Foundation Cavaliere del Lavoro Alberto Giacomini. The exhibition presents a series of works made by artists sensitive to the theme of sustainability.
A glimpse of hope
The 2022 was a difficult year for many reasons. Characterized by global emergencies that were increasingly alarming and threatening. The exhibition, conceived and realized by the Foundation, aims to give voice to these anxieties.
A provocative choice. A cry of denunciation. But, at the same time, a look of hope. A deep awareness of the difficult historical and social moment that the whole of humanity is experiencing. Hovering between global epidemics, wars, emergencies climate, social, moral and anthropological degradation, environmental and minds pollution. The widespread exhibition is also meant to be an address of good wishes. An expectation for a future in which man is able to become aware of his total responsibility toward the damage he causes. To himself and to planet Earth.
SOSHumanity
Can an exhibition state a principle without being didactic?
“SOSHumanity is a call for help issued to humanity and for humanity. So that it may become aware that man is solely responsible for all emergencies on the planet”. Be they social or environmental. Such circumstances are challenging our present. And, above all, they mortgage our future. That is why affirming a principle is very important. We are responsible for our own degradation. So, only through an act of deep awareness it will be possible to embark on a new path. A path toward
sustainability. As Dr. Andrea Alessandro Giacomini states, “SOSHumanity, in its simplicity, is an impactful title, that leaves no room for interpretation. It’s unequivocally the universal distress signal; which has the absolute precedence over all other communications”.

Five artists
The exhibition assigns this SOS to five artists, Simone Benedetto, Silvia Della Rocca, Sergio Floriani, Omar Hassan and Helidon Xhixha.
Five sensibilities and five worldviews. They provide the visitor with a personal interpretation. A clue to this emergence. Through art installations that can be admired among the most striking scenery of Lake Orta. Which allude to different themes. Pollution, social degradation and critical environmental issues produced by man.

Simone Benedetto
Sculptor Simone Benedetto, lands on Lake Orta interpreting at a wide range of SOSHumanity’s themes of social denunciation. Particularly towards children and their world to be protected and safeguarded. His works of greatest visual and emotional impact are Teddy Bear and Sexy Teddy. Two giant little bears that reach four meters in height. With a dual symbolism: icons defending of children’s innocence and spontaneity and, at the same time, vehicle to denunciation of violence and social degradation.
Silvia Della Rocca
Artist, journalist, writer, author and director of TV formats and documentaries; Silvia Della Rocca responds by bringing her Moons to Lake Orta.
As a sign of hope to return to “riveder le stelle”. Interpreting Humanity’s desire to get out of this “metaphorical Hell” into which it has sunk. Caught between pandemics and wars, climate emergencies and pollution.
Gong Moon is a double Moon, colored Gold and Silver, suspended in the sky like a large Gong that metaphorically receives and releases the vibrations of the Universe. Suggesting a contemplative attitude. And connection with the Self. But at the same time, it places attention to environmental emergencies by showing a series of objects recovered directly from the lake. Man-made waste that pollutes the environment.
Observing the moon, metaphorically joining Heaven and Earth, Silvia invites man to turn his gaze back to the Infinite. Beyond limits of individualism.
And, at the same time, digging into one’s own self. To rediscover a connection with nature and the universe.
Sergio Floriani
Distinguishing marks of Sergio Floriani’s art is fingerprints. Representing the concrete evidence of existence. The first human element of individual identity.
Floriani brings to the waters of the lake two works that embody his vision of the world. Where fingerprints indelibly imprint matter, giving it identity and meaning. Becoming a sign of our passage on this Earth. The works, marked by the unmistakable fingerprints, are metaphors for the search. The search for a dimension in which the human being claims his space and identity.
Omar Hassan
Having become famous for his highly personal action painting, Omar Hassan has a unmistakable style.
A former boxer, he sees in the act of fighting a metaphor for life. And he turns it into art. On Lake Orta he does not wear colors and gloves, but he responds by stripping his painterly gestures of color and exposing his Comignoli: terracotta chimneys. An invitation to reflect on the importance of the place where we live. The home, the domestic hearth that we share with our closest loved ones and our children.
Hassan’s fireplaces are not elements of emission of polluting fumes but artistic metaphors of emission of scents, aromas, feelings and family affection. And they draw attention to the importance of returning to the most intimate and traditional values. As opposed to the increasingly rampant social degradation; characterized by a profound ethical, aesthetic and moral crisis.
Helidon Xixha
The Artist of Steel and Light, Helidon Xhixha, brings a giant stainless-steel iceberg to Lake Orta. As a symbol of environmental denouncing.
The work floats on the waters of the cleanest lake in all of Europe. With its evocative power and the continuous variation of light reflections. Becoming a concrete act of raising awareness of climate change. The melting of the ice masses is a threat. An environmental emergency that affects all of us. And not only us but also the future and survival of the planet. Helidon’s Iceberg shows a disturbing scenario. Capable of shaking consciences. By reaffirming, for the contemporary world, that environmental issues are irrimandable.
